Info for Instructors

Greetings!

Our project is all about exploring virtual worlds for education for community colleges in the state of Oregon.  We're starting our second year here on the island, and have big plans for building out meeting spaces and necessary structures on the island,  and getting our instructors trained to use it this year.

A few facts about us:
  • Who we are - A group of emergent technology explorers within the OCCDLA, which is 17 community colleges in the state of Oregon.

  • What we are doing- Exploring the educational applications of virtual worlds, focusing currently on Second Life.

  • Why we are doing it - We think virtual spaces introduce unique affordances to the distance learning toolkit that may help us foster life-long learning communities, offers visual expression not possible in other mediums, and gives us opportunities to have fun and be imaginative while actively learning together.

A running blog of our project can be found here: http://slorcc.blogspot.com/

You can find our island schedule on a Google calendar by clicking here.

If you have Second Life installed on your system, click here to visit OR Community Colleges Island.

We gather during an open weekly island coordination meeting on Mondays at 2 PM- Click the Island Schedule link above for our next meeting date. NOTE: We do not meet during each term's finals week, or the first week of Fall term. Our meetings are very casual, but if you have an item you would like presented to the group, please be sure to email me, our island coordinator at monica dot martinezgallagher at pcc dot edu.
