We're the PRD – the People's
Republic of Delicious. We're a food collective staffed by student volunteers at
the University of
Ottawa that seeks to
offer a healthy, environmentally responsible and affordable food alternative on
campus and at like-minded events around the city. All of PRD's meals are vegan,
and the association functions on a pay-what-you-can basis, enabling our service
to be as inclusive as possible to the entire community. The People's Republic of Delicious seeks to create a positive environment and sense of community at the University of Ottawa by involving student volunteers in the cooking, serving and cleaning processes, sharing valuable culinary skills and promoting healthy eating. The food is served every Wednesday in the University Centre, using re-usable tupperware. In doing so, the PRD is not only preserving the environment, but also creating an opportunity for people to interact over their meals. In addition to providing for students once a week, the PRD cooks on demand for different student and community activities during the academic year, such as the Ottawa Student Health Initiative, the Ontario Public Interest Research Group, and the Political Studies Student Association. We do all this through community support of the Herb and Spice, the Natural Food Pantry, and the Middle East Bakery. To be added to the PRD mailing list, send us a message at prdottawa@gmail.com! See the PRD Facebook for current news! We are not serving during exams this year, but will restart for the first week of school. Cooking is every Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. and the serving is at 12:30 p.m. in the University Centre. |
