In 2010 we sent 42,828 holiday cards to troops deployed overseas! For the most up-to-date news on Operation Holiday Card, visit Operation Holiday Card is a holiday card collection for American troops deployed overseas during the holiday season. This is the sixth year for Operation Holiday Card and we are growing every year. Darby Jameson started this effort in 2006, while her husband was stationed in Kuwait. The project's initial goal was to collect 200 cards to send to one base in Kuwait. The response was amazing. When the collection was over, more than 1,500 cards were sent to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and Balad Air Base in Baghdad, Iraq. The cards were passed out to the troops at dinner on Christmas Day. As each person signed in at the mess hall they were handed a card. The cards were read, passed around the tables among friends, and many were eventually hung on the wall for all to see. The collection grows every year, with cards coming in from all across the country. In 2006 we started with 1,500 cards. In 2007, we collected 16,000 cards. In 2008, that number rose to over 18,000. And again in 2009, the effort grew with more than 29,000 cards. And it continues to grow, with 42,828 cards collected in 2010. We are asking people to write a note to an unknown service member inside your card, seal it, and send it to the address below. Cards can be for Christmas, Hanukkah (please write this on the back of your envelope), or general Season’s Greetings. Cards can be store bought or homemade (NO GLITTER PLEASE). Your words of support mean so much to these men and women. Remember each card you send is another service member touched. Please pass on the word about this project to everyone you know. Feel free to post this information to promote it in your workplace, your place of worship, and your social network. This is a project that works because individuals take it on. Some schools collect over 2,000 cards, workplaces collect 300 cards, and one family collected 150 cards. How many cards can you collect? Cards can be sent to:
6658 YOUREE DRIVE SUITE 180, Box 351 SHREVEPORT, LA 71105
This year’s deadline is Dec. 1. All cards must be received in Louisiana by that time. The cards will need plenty of time to get overseas. Any and all cards received after the deadline will NOT be sent overseas. I thank you for your support of this wonderful project. There is so much support for our troops as they spend the holidays away from their families.
Thank you and God Bless you!!
