We will be working on a research paper for the next six weeks. The students will have some time to work on their research in class, however they will also need to do some work at home. We are going over strategies in time management, efficient research, avoiding plagiarism, and proper formal writing in class.
Attached below are some of the important documents the students have received. The students must remember to write down their sources for their bibliography. Students can use http://elementary.oslis.org/resources/cm/mlacitationse to help them format their bibliography properly. It is best for students to save their bibliography entries in a word processing document so that it is easily accessible at the end of the paper.
The students must also make a map to help them with their presentation. The requirements for the map are on the 2009 Colony Project and Paper document attached below. There is a sample of the map they can see at school.
To make sure students are getting appropriate information for their research report, I have compiled a list of search engines that would is age appropriate.
Please make sure to support and guide your child with the research report and allow them to be independent learners as this is a project that we're walking through together in class so that they can learn the necessary skills for middle school.
The calendar will be updated to show the same information the students entered into their agenda.
