Haiti Partnership – Background :
Since 1995 the Haiti Partnership has been working with the Methodist Church of Haiti by means of helping Haitians with construction projects. The projects that many American Volunteers in Mission go to Haiti to assist with have been organized by the Methodist Church of Haiti as the communities have needed. Each VIM team travels to Haiti for a ten day trip to help the local workers build, fix, or improve the countryside of Haiti. The Haiti Partnership has worked in many different communities, including working on a welding school in Port-au-Prince; a sewing school in Petit Guave; the Deacon’s Home in Jeremie; schools in Golbotine , Verettes and Nicolas; the church, school, teacher’s dorm and clean water project in Hermitage; and the churches in Bwa Neuf Malor, Mellier, Cabaret, and Torbeck near Les Cayes. While these projects are very important it is the relationships we build with the Haitian community and the people we travel with that we find to be the most rewarding. We form lifelong relationships with our traveling VIM friends and our new Haitian friends as well. Hundreds of VIMs have been part of these many extensive efforts and we thank not only them for their support and dedication, but we also thank our many donor churches as well. We, at the Haiti Partnership, have found support not only through monetary donations but the hundreds of school kits, health kits, birthing kits and layette kits that have been made by many UMW groups, youth groups, and other church groups as well as girl scouts and boy scouts. We truly represent a very large team and a huge team effort. For dates on upcoming trips go to www.haitipartnership.com |
