New- There
is a new meal schedule on CaringMeals.com for: Volunteers in Mission to
Schoharie County
UNY Flood Recovery update It is 7 months after the Irene-Lee flood events yet hundreds of families still cannot move back into their homes, despite months of hard work. With Spring approaching, discouragement with that situation weighs heavily upon those hardest hit by that 500-year event. Rebuilding teams are needed to help make homes habitable again and lift the spirits of those struggling to reach the New Normal for their families. Individuals and teams are looking forward to warmer weather and are scheduling to work in the Schoharie Creek and Binghamton-Owego flood rebuilding projects. Slots are filling very quickly for Summer. March and April still have openings, according to Greg Forrester, UNY Recovery Director for Irene-Lee flood response. A number of homes have been made habitable again, but many more need rebuilding. The UNY Recovery team is working with Long Term Recovery Committees in Broome, Tioga, and Schoharie counties to offer volunteer assistance for rebuilding. Several UMC churches also are in need of rebuilding. Owego UMC in particular needs a very large effort. Call to schedule now as the logistics to sustain teams and work projects is limited and numerous Summer months are completely full at both locations - praise God! Excellent
progress is reported on the new 44-ft VIM shower trailer being built by Oneida
UMC with donations from around the conference. This facility will enable larger
teams to shower at churches hosting teams which have little or no such
facilities for teams building nearby. At this time the plumbing and heating
runs under the floor are done and the floor has been tiled. Once completed - this shower unit will be staged in
Middleburgh NY for teams serving Schoharie county recovery projects. We need
your help to get this project completed by April 1 when we have 30 volunteers
scheduled to serve though the Middleburgh UMC. Recovery Director: Greg

Flood Recovery Information for Oneonta District Greg Forrester, VIM Coordinator, reports that because of the vast scope of the flood disaster, immediate help to communities will come from neighboring unaffected churches and membership. Every one of us can spare a day to help our neighbors. Many gifts are needed. Please work with local coordinators so the right help is available at the right time. Muck out volunteers can be best prepared by reviewing the videos listed at: http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/flood. “Please wear your church t-shirt if you have one. Many unknown people are in these communities of need, and it helps residents to know who is among them. Also it lets them know that we United Methodists are ‘being God’s love with our neighbors.’” Forms required for Volunteers responding to the Disaster are below for download How to make storm damage Claim To Pastors and church leaders: To establish a claim for any damage your church may have sustained as a result of the recent storm, please contact Charmaine Derenda directly at Walsh Duffield.
