History

The team started in winter 2008 as a combination of U11 and U12 girls. We identified West Valley as our league and registered for our first season in the following spring. Under the Factor Eleven umbrella, the team continues its fast pace development. Please, refer to the coaching philosophy on the right hand side.

In the fall 2009, the team split into 2 teams; one U11 and one U12. In spring 2009, the U12 team won the D2 cup championship.

Head Coach's Philosophy

As a coach of youth athletes, I believe that I have the responsibility to play a role in their adult building process. Part of this is to install passion for soccer in the athletes but as importantly, one of my objectives is to also provide the athletes with the environment to develop their team working and leadership skills while helping them develop a sense of responsibility. One manifestation of this has been to get all athletes in the current soccer team to commit to practicing for 15 minutes daily prior to turning on TV at home.

I’m a strong believer in preparation. Each training session is crafted with a theme and objective that are communicated to the athletes at the beginning of the training session. I strive to question my training at the end of each session and identify what worked and what didn’t in order to identify how the objective could have been better met. Also, once per season, one-on-one sessions are held with each athlete to sollicit feedback and provide the athlete with areas for development.

I believe that a good coach should be able to continue to improve based on athletes’ feedback, personal analysis, and new knowledge. As such, I always question my training and identify improvement areas.

One of the critical elements of athlete development is building the athletes’ confidence in themselves and the training that they are receiving. Part of this is to insure that the athletes are making their own decisions on the field and to provide positive reinforcement along with areas for improvement. Video sessions are part of our training program. We analyze filmed matches and hold video sessions 1-2 times per season to help the athletes see first-hand their decision making and having them propose alternative decisions that they could be making.

Being part of Factor Eleven, the team gets access to a variety of trainers that expose the athletes to different coaching styles. These trainers have been involved in developing athletes at high levels including training athletes that qualified to the Olympics
