A Huffy "Savannah" bicycle was found in the neighborhood a few weeks ago. The bicycle was turned in to the police. Please contact the OPD for further information. Even though we live in the best neighborhood of Olympia, sometimes crime does happen. Please be sure to lock up your valuables to deter theft.

NeighborWoods
is a free program offered by City of Olympia that provides residents
with new street trees. The City provides free trees and training -
participants plant the trees, then care for them. Nearly 3000
street trees have been planted in the City of Olympia since the program
began in 1998, and over 400 volunteers have been trained.
There are four requirements to receive free trees through the NeighborWoods Program sponsored by the City of Olympia:
- Residence must be located within the legal city limits of the City of Olympia
- Recipient must attend a free 4-hour training workshop
- Trees must be planted either within or adjacent to the City's rights of way as street trees
- Recipient must commit to care for (plant, water, prune, mulch) the trees
This September, Urban Forestry will be hosting two NeighborWoods workshops:
Saturday, September 12
9:00am-1:00pm
Saturday, September 19
9:00am-1:00pm
Workshops fill up fast, so register soon! Please contact Stacey Ray, Urban Forester, at (360) 753-8046 or sray@ci.olympia.wa.us with
questions or for more information. |

(From the Olympian News Paper) Matthew "Matt" C. Peterson 1983 - 2008 Matt Peterson died Sunday evening, November 9, 2008, near Corpus Christie, Texas in an industrial accident. Matt
was doing one of the things he loved, climbing a tower on a wind farm
to help make renewable energy a reality for the world. Matt was
born February 26, 1983 in Redmond, Washington to D. Christopher and
Judith C. Peterson. After three years in North Idaho, the family
settled in Olympia in 1986. Matt graduated from Olympia High School in
2001. During those years, he was active in Boy Scouts, earning a rank
of Life Scout. He also volunteered four years with the Thurston County
Search and Rescue. Matt graduated from the University of Washington
in 2005 with degrees in Physics, and Earth and Space Sciences. He was
also an active rock climber, climbing in Washington, Oregon, and
British Columbia. He served two years in the Peace Corps in Namibia as
a secondary school science teacher. In February 2008, Matt took a
position with Global Energy Concepts in Seattle as a Field Technician.
In that capacity, he traveled the continental U. S. and Guam installing
and servicing wind measuring equipment. Matt is survived by his loving parents; and sister, Erica R. Peterson of Olympia. Matt's
wisdom, wit and easy-going demeanor will be tremendously missed by
those who knew and loved him. He was a great diplomat, negotiator, and
leader who loved life and lived it to its fullest. It is
suggested, in lieu of purchasing flowers, that monetary donations be
made to any or all of the following organizations in Matt's name: The
American Red Cross, Amnesty International, The Sierra Club, and/or
Planned Parenthood. A celebration of Matt's life will take place at
11:00 a.m. Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Masonic Center, 455 North
Street SE, Tumwater. Arrangements with Funeral Alternatives of Washington.(360) 753-1065 Chris Peterson is a former president of the Wildwood Neighborhood Board. He and his wife Judy were very devoted to improving the community we live in. |

(From the Olympia City Web Site) It’s that time of year when
the rain comes and leaves start to fall. With falling leaves come
blocked storm drains. City crews work to keep storm drains clear, but
with over 6,500 drains in Olympia, we could use your help.

There has been several car burglary's with in the neighborhood over the last few days. We will be asking the OPD to make a few extra patrols around the neighborhood in the late night hours. Please take the time to lock your car and keep high value items out of sight as this seems to be the best deterrent. If you see suspicious activity please don't hesitate to call the police.
