Be sure and check out the riddles at the bottom of this page!!!! Introduction: My husband is retired and is in charge of house and home during the school year. My three children have all graduated from high school. (Saxon & Titans) My daughter earned her bachelors degree in biotechnology from OSU (Go Beavers!) and her masters degree in public health genetics from University of Washington. She is now a project coordinator for breast cancer research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Our oldest son earned his bachelors degree in electrical and computer engineering from OSU (Go Beavers!) and is working on his masters degree in mechanical engineering. He is currently working on robot propulsion, specifically knees and hips, and is in seventh heaven---robotics are his passion! My youngest son is still at home trying to decide what he wants to do next... so many talents, so little direction... Nice guys finish last! Chemistry has fascinated me since I was 10 years old and began learning about electrons and ions. I became excited about particle physics and marine biology at an equally young age. However, as I "matured" I became fascinated by how many "phenomenon" could be explained or understood using chemistry. Chemistry is often referred to as "the hub" of the sciences and that is the reason all students pursuing science or a science-related field must study chemistry their freshman year in college. It is important and will constitute roughly 1/3 of all your classes (and 1/3 of your GPA) your first year of college if you have chosen a science major. My chemistry hero is Linus Pauling, an Oregonian who won two Nobel prizes, one in chemistry for his work on the nature of the chemical bond, the second, the Nobel Peace Prize, for his stand against nuclear weapons. My chemistry heroine is Lise Meitner, who was the first to recognize nuclear fission despite enduring incredible obstacles in Nazi Germany. I love gardening, cooking, reading, all sorts of puzzles, needlework, hiking, bicycling and swimming. I play the piano and guitar and can frequently be found at plays and concerts in the area. I am happiest outdoors and enjoy tree and plant identification as well as being a bird watcher, regularly reporting to eBird at the Cornell Ornithology Lab. Our yard is one of the site survey points for the USA. You might have observed my propensity for snails; I am an avid snail collector and there is usually a snail or two in my immediate vicinity. Can you answer my snail riddles? Riddle #1: What do you call a party where all the slugs attend wearing their party hats? Riddle #2: Why did the snail cross the road? Riddle #3: What did the snail say while taking a ride on the back of a tortoise? Am I ready for an exciting year? You bet. Don your aprons, hold onto your goggles and lets get cracking (but take it easy on the glassware because the budget is a little tight). ; ) |
