OLTON RAVENS U9's

26-10-2008 Ravens 2-0 Oaklands

The lads continued their impressive streak of form with a good win against Oaklands.  Since we went 1-0 down against Coleshill 4 weeks ago we have been unbeaten during the 80 minutes and we have gradually improved as time has gone on.

We saw 2 changes from last week as Mike and Rob came in for Graham and Dyl who was away.

We started really well with Matty quickly into the action on the left.  Pete was linking up well and Ben looked lively.  Matty fired our 1st chance over the bar and Will hit a shot from distance just over shortly after.

We got a deserved lead when Matt's corner found Mark who leapt highest to nod us in front.  Mark has looked dangerous in the air for a few weeks now and he was finally given some quality service.

We continued to press but Oaklands were dangerous on the break.  James had to make 3 good saves in a short space of time as Oaklands came back.

We needed a 2nd goal and Ben provided it to continue his great run of form.  He collected the ball and beat 2 men before firing a powerful shot into the corner from the edge of the box.  We could have killed the game off from here as Rob’s good work and great cross was headed into the side netting by Mike.

The 2nd half was harder work with the wind in our faces but just like the game last week we battled through.  Robbo came into his own with a hard working midfield display and Will also rose to the challenge.  Matt and Dayle continued to threaten out wide and Ben was always a threat, although our final pass let us down.

Defensively once again we were sound for our 3rd clean sheet in 4 weeks.  Jacko was outstanding with his man of the match display and Pete was only just behind..  Kev and Mark held their own against 2 very physical forwards and James continues to give the lads in front of him the confidence to play.

Our best 2nd half efforts were Ben's trickery and 30 yard shot over the bar.  Rob's great work on the right saw his cross just evade everybody and Dayles in swinging corners almost saw Mark get on the end of a 2nd.  Matt shot over the bar and eventually we ran out worthy winners.

Before the game we spoke about the opportunity that we have to get into the top 3 with wins over Oaklands and next weeks CCC.  We have done half of the job and I can only commend the fighting spirit of the lads with back to back wins against the two most physical teams in our division.
