A performance that probably warrants a match report so here goes. It seems an absolute age since we last performed and even longer since we won a game. It is in fact not quite as bad as it seems as there have been so many missed weeks and cancelled games that it has made it feel much worse. Still, we had lost 4 on the trot in league and cup so we needed something from this game. The encouraging display against Arden needed to be built upon against a Dosthill team that beat Arden a week ago. Alex and Mike were paired upfront for the 1st time since the days of their successful division 1 partnership a few years ago. As far as this game goes, well it couldn’t really have been any better. We controlled every aspect of it. James was a spectator for most of the game as our back four mopped up the pieces. The real plus though was our dominance in midfield. Dyl, Will, Mark and Rob were outstanding. We won every 1st and 2nd ball and dominated in the air and the ground. I can’t remember a game where we have created so many good chances. Mike had the 1st chance, an early left foot shot was excellent saved by our old keeper Stevo. It wasn’t too long after that Mike smashed us in front from Al’s flick on. The dominance continued as Will and Rob delivered some cracking tackles in midfield. Dyl was a constant threat up the left in what was probably his best display of the season. Mark looked 7 ft tall as he dominated in the air. Al screwed a left foot shot wide and then Rob had a glorious chance saved after a lovely pass(from Dyl i think). Half time 1-0 The 2nd half was just as good. Mike hit and thunderbolt that Stevo brilliantly tipped over. We needed a 2nd goal and finally it came. Al won another header in the box and Mike scored a brilliant overhead kick. More chances came and went; Mike was 1 on 1 and tried to go round Stevo who saved well. Dyl then had an identical chance saved. Dyl also had a left foot volley saved by Steve. We were in complete control. Ross, Matt, Gray and Pete were still in complete control and Dosthill only looked like scoring from a set piece, which they then did. 2-1. A few more corners gave us some nervous moments before Mike sealed the win when he rose above the defence to head in at the back post. 3-1 and a really strong performance all over the pitch. Can we take this form into the remaining 7 games? We have had 3 or 4 of these performances now this season but generally always followed up by something dire. We matched Arden last time out but missed our chances but Mike and Alex are playing with confidence so let’s have a good go at it.
