OLTON RAVENS U9's

Coleshill-2008-09-28

Yet again 1 goal decides the fixture between us and Coleshill and someone, once again we were on the wrong end of it.  0 points in 3 fixtures with them and arguably we should have had 9.  This one left the sourest taste in the mouth as we had 2 goals chalked off and Coleshill should have played the last hour with 10 men.

We started quite poorly but the game never really went anywhere in the early stages.  A few Coleshill corners were matched by Brett almost getting onto the end of a couple of through balls at the other end.

Ben had a shot well blocked but his thoughtful pass to Dylan resulted in the ball ending up in the net. The flag went up the goal was chalked off.  I am told by people in a better position than me that this may have been, shall we say, harsh.

Shortly after we were behind.  A long bouncing ball saw Ryan jump with the forward.  The ball broke loose and ended up in our net. 1-0.

We were poor after this until half time and we were pleased to come in at just 1 down.

We changed our shape and the 2nd half was a different story.  Coleshill did have the first chance and should of put them game to bed when the forward again managed to out jump Ry.  The bounce was kind for them and a tap in would have made it 2 0.  Somehow the forward managed to put it wide from no more than  6 yards.

We had a life line and the boys went about trying to take it.  Will was commanding and Ross was really starting to get fired up.  Mike H had made a big difference and chances were coming.

Matt fired wide, Ross had a free kick saved.  Graham was through and his shot was saved.  Corners and throws flashed across their 6 yard box.  Bens cross saw Mike header dribble wide.  Brett went back on and had another chance.  It was one way traffic but the ball wouldn’t go in with a combination of bad luck, bad finishing and good goalkeeping.

Our final throw of the dice saw a big goalmouth scramble.  Ben shot and the lads all raised there arms at the thought of the equaliser.  The defender tried to slide the ball off the line.  Olton said Goal, Coleshill said no goal.  It was left to Coleshill linesman and it was obviously a massive surprise to everybody when he said no goal.

Full time and a big 2nd half effort did not get it’s rewards.  We started the game too slowly and gave away a very soft goal.

Next week we travel to Studley in the cup, looking to kick start our season before we head back to Coleshill for another battle in the cup.
