One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Corps Summer Internship
We are traveling to Kenema, Sierra Leone, to bring 100 XO laptops to children who visit Defence for Children International's (DCI) center in Kenema. OLPC selected our project as one of fifteen, giving us 100 XOs, hardware, $10K stipend, 10-day training in Kigali, Rwanda, and an entire summer in Kenema. OLPC has a revolutionary vision: an XO for every child. We want to help fulfill OLPC's mission:
One laptop per child. OLPC's mission is to create educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future.
