I am a Research Associate at the the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) in Berlin, Germany, where I mostly work on topics related to Conflict and Development Economics. Before starting at DIW Berlin, I completed my PhD at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and defended my dissertation in May 2009.
I was born in the Netherlands in 1981 and completed my undergraduate studies, as well as a Research Master in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Groningen. I work on a wide variety of topics, with publications in the fields of conflict economics, development economics, fiscal sustainability and others. My work has appeared in the Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Review of Income and Wealth and elsewhere. I am currently exploring projects in ethnolinguistic heterogeneity, terrorism and maritime security as well.
