Client Story

In one recent case, we received a call from an elderly woman whose son had recently passed. The landlord was refusing to release her son’s personal things from his apartment. Thanks to research conducted by one of our interns, we were able to help the mother prove to the landlord that she had the legal authority to retrieve her son’s possessions.

SENIOR LAW RESOURCE CENTER EVENTS (link)

In Oklahoma today, there are more than 500,000 people who are 65 and older, and over 200,000 family caregivers caring for loved ones suffering from dementia. As the older population increases, so does our need for assistance with important legal issues and social services, such as finding ways to live as independently as possible, protecting vulnerable adults from financial exploitation, and making decisions on behalf of others using durable powers of attorney, advance directives, and guardianship. The Senior Law Resource Center is a reliable source for legal information and assistance to handle these and other elder law issues. Annually, our three attorneys, with help from law student interns, have handled over 800 calls and emails from seniors and caregivers seeking legal advice.

In addition to providing one-on-one legal services, the Senior Law Resource Center partnered with the Oklahoma Association for Healthcare Ethics to develop a new video on how to complete Oklahoma’s Advance Directive for Health Care form. These dvds, along with thousands of copies of our four printed publications, have been distributed across the state through hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and caregiver support groups. All of our educational materials, along with our on-line resource center, are free and available from our website, www.senior-law.org.

Client Letter

You will be happy to know that my father is now in a facility where he can be cared for, I checked him in yesterday and I did not have any problems. I have made his financial arrangements . . . I wanted to thank you so much for your help and I wanted to let you know that it is very comforting to me that Dad is safe and is receiving the medical attention that he needs.
