Despite the cold, Okehampton U11’s had arguably one of the best matches they have played. Previously unbeatable, Launceston found out just what the home side were capable of. From the start, Okehampton went in fighting, not showing any mercy to the away side. The boys did some fantastic passes, and in their first season of kicking, took full advantage. Despite all their effort, the young Oaks were unable to get a try in the first half, leaving the score a level 0-0 at half time. After a little pep talk and drink of water, the boys were ready to tackle the second half. Launceston had a couple of close attempts at scoring, but the strong line up made sure they were pushed well clear and out for a scrum, which gave the perfect opportunity for Oke to make their move, and the constant attack found Joe Mawle placing the ball down for a tri. Liam Pyle then scored a conversion making it 7-0 to Okehampton. With the final whistle looming, the young Oaks were determined not to leave it at that, and gave a few more good attacks and yet again, Joe found the moment to dive to the tri line giving Oke another tri. With moments to spare, Daniel Thorne lined up the ball and gave a second conversion for Okehampton, leaving the score at the final whistle as 14-0 to the home side.
This game was worth fighting the cold with flasks of coffee, and every boy who played deserves a mention, as each and every player contributed to this fantastic game:
