Current Garden News: It's cold in the garden. But it is a great time to get a 2010 wall calendar!  This 8.5"x11" wall calendar is filled with wonderful pictures of our first season in the garden, captured by our talented local photographer, and gardener, Mary Claire Crow. You can have one (or more) of your own by donating $18 or more to the Old Hickory Village Community Garden. This covers the cost of printing, and supports our gardening and community building efforts for 2010. You can pick yours up during January at Shipman's beside Piggly Wiggly on Old Hickory Blvd. Or you can email us to arrange to get yours.
If you would like information on joining in our garden or how to help, please join our facebook group or email us to learn how you can help. In March of 2009 we started this gardening adventure. See pictures below (start at the bottom). We removed the sod, marked off 30 plots for families to grow food in. We put in water tanks and a fence, a flower plot, an herb plot, and compost bins. This first year we have also had classes on gardening, composting, cooking, canning & pickling, all open to the community. We enjoyed plenty of tomatoes, peppers and lots of other treasures during Summer and Fall, and we are looking forward to a new growing season.    |
