Operation Hometown Gratitude is a club designed to send care packages to Americans serving abroad in the military and the Peace Corps. The program is also designed to teach students how to manage money and organize groups.Volunteer hours are also gained through our organization.
We are nonpolitical and student run. Students learn leadership, finicial discipline, organizing, and appreciation for what they have. Our program provides a way for generations to interact and for students to learn how blessed they are to live in the United States.
Started in Rochester, Minnesota in 2005, this program reached La Follette High School in winter of 2009. By June, regular meetings were being held and by November we had sent our first packages joined by the local media. By mid November, we packed 47 boxes in an hour with the help of VFW Post 7591 and local Girl and Cub Scouts. In early December, officers and Kevin met Governor Jim Doyle and his wife at the Executive Residence in Maple Bluff. We are looking to keep moving on this excellent start and could always use a hand, money, or supply donation.
