Biography

Dr. Osama Halabi has been active in academia for the last 21 years. Presently, he is working as an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at Qatar University. Before joining Qatar University, Dr. Halabi has participated in various organizations in various capacities such as Fujitsu Endowed Chair (Fujitsu Co.,) at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from 2001 to 2003, a researcher in Virtual Systems Laboratory at Gifu University, Japan, from 2003 to 2006, assistant professor at Iwate University, Japan, from 2006 to 2010. He received an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Shanghai University, and a Ph.D. degree in Information Science from Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in 1998, and 2001, respectively. His principal research interests include haptics, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), human-centered computing, robotics, and interactive systems. He has intensive experience in software development and evaluation for multimodal interaction, haptic interfaces, and virtual reality. Dr. Halabi led and participated in many projects funded by the Japanese government, QNRF, and Qatar University. Dr. Halabi was a recipient of many international awards for best research papers and many awards in prestigious technology completions such as the Microsoft Imagine Cup. He is a member of IEEE, ACM, Virtual Reality Society of Japan (VRSJ), and The Society for Art and Science in Japan.
