Homebrew semi-automatic bug

by OH6DC

Two distant cousins: a Vibroplex Champion and a homebrew bug.

High quality piece of Morse code art & technology. Manufactured in 1967 in the USA. Bought from an internet auction in 2006.

The challenger. Homebrew with low tech tools & cheap materials in 2007.

A hacksaw blade is used for the shaft/pendulum. Ordinary screws act as contacts and adjustments.

Alligator clip's position determines the dot speed.

Which bug is the winner? See & hear the video clips below and judge for yourself.

Update: Yet another challenger to the Vibroplex has been born. See my Lego bug.
