OFME FestBits #2 - (A long tradition revived - with a new designation)

The Ottawa Folk Festival presents a New Year's Eve celebration featuring Ian Tamblyn and Friends with special guests Margaret Feuerstack and Dave Johnstone.  Plan to spend New Year's Eve, Wednesday, December 31, at the NAC Fourth Stage, (53 Elgin Street), starting at 9 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 p.m.)  And you'll get to enjoy champagne and cake at midnight!

Ian Tamblyn
is a songwriter and musician whose creative talents and sense of adventure have led him to many far-flung places on the planet.
His songs reflect the beautiful places and fascinating people he has encountered on his journey.  With more than 20 albums to his credit, Ian has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Helen Verger Award, the Estelle Klein Award and the Jackie Washington Award.  His superb creations are the subject of an impressive tribute album, "Coastline of Our Dreams", featuring artists such as Lynn Miles, Hart Rouge, Georgette Fry and Valdy.  Ian's most recent album, "Raincoast", is the second instalment of a four-disc project based on Canada's coastlines.  Ian's musical excellence, thirst for adventure and devastating sense of humour have created a large, loyal fan base across Canada and around the world.

Margaret Feuerstack
and Dave Johnstone are the winners of the 2008 Harvey and Louise Glatt "One Fret Less" Award.  They started out performing old jazz and swing standards together, but Margaret's original songs have gradually become the main focus of their performance.  She is known for her subtle intertwining of lyrics and music, with Dave's skills as a jazz guitarist adding polish and a delightfully witty musicality to the mix.  The result is an intricate, engaging sound they call "fazz" – a creative fusion of folk and jazz.

The cost is $60 per person, (which includes champagne and cake at midnight).  Tickets may be purchased in person at the NAC Box Office, (53 Elgin Street) - no service charges.  Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster - surcharges apply - by phone at 613-755-1111, online, (see link below), or at any Ticketmaster outlet.
