OFME (Ottawa Folk Music Events) Listings Home TidBits "Headlines" From: Ian Tamblyn, a posting announcing the release of "GYRE", marking his 30th independent recording, which will be celebrated in a CD release show at the Black Sheep Inn on Saturday, February 20: “..Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer.” -W.B. Yeats, "The Second Coming" Ian will be doing a CD release concert for his newest recording, "Gyre", on Saturday, February 20 - the earliest day that could be arranged - at The Black Sheep Inn, (753 Riverside Drive, in Wakefield), 819-459-3228. The release of "GYRE" marks the 30th independent recording for Ian Tamblyn. Produced by Scott Merritt and Ian at Cottage Studios in Guelph, the new CD features some of Canada’s finest players: Gary Craig (drums), George Koller (upright bass), Chris Whiteley (trumpet and harmonica), Jeff Bird (mandolin and harmonica), Fred Guignion (guitars), with Ian and Scott playing various instruments as well. This new collection of songs was recorded and mixed between January and June of 2009. "GYRE" was mastered by David Cain in Ottawa. "GRYE" has been released by North Track Records, P.O. Box 68, Station B, Ottawa, K1P 6C3; it is dedicated to the memory of W.G. Tamblyn and Willie P Bennett. "GYRE" represents a break from Ian’s Canadian sketch, the Four Coast project. This collection features songs that travel more in the interior landscape. Though many of the songs were written around the world - in Prague, Norway, Ireland, or Antarctica - the map on this CD is less marked and more imaginary, whether on "The Road to Duntroon" or "Lost in Afghanistan". Ian would like to thank Scott Merritt for his help on this project. Cover photography is by Wakefield’s Jeff Hardill, graphic design is by Albert Prisoner, and layout is by Petr Maur. Copies of "GYRE" may purchased by sending an email to; tamblyn@hotmail.com, or though North Track Records, by "snail mail" at P.O. Box 68, Station "B", Ottawa, K1P 6C3. The cost for the CD is $20 - including shipping and taxes - please make your cheque payable to: Ian Tamblyn or North Track Records.
