These are the steps we take and questions we ask ourselves when developing a project
for the Life Practice Model.
Please do comment below if you have questions regarding any of these steps.
- Standards
- What are the state and federal standards that the students *must* know for the tests?
- What are additional content standards that can be integrated into this general topic?
- Essential Question Hook and/or Scenario
- What questions or scenario can be posed that will "hook" the students into wanting to know more? To go deeper into the topic?
- This can be the most important part of the Project Plan.
- This is where the concept of Optimal Ambiguity is essential. A teacher must feel comfortable
- Other content/skills learners will need have to complete this project
- What would you like the learner to be able to do as a result of their learning?
- This step is perfect for planning workshops. Writing skills? Speaking? Phone skills? Tech skills?
- Resources
- What additional support will the teacher need to provide for the students to keep pushing them further?
- How will s/he get the students to connect with these resources?
- Final deliverable(s)
- What product will the learner turn in, publish, or perform to demonstrate mastery of the essential and secondary content and skills?
- What tools will they need access to in order to complete the deliverable?
- Deadlines
- What is the appropriate amount of time that a student needs to wrestle with the topic? Be sure to create a sense of urgency with your deadline.
- What are your plans for Soft Deadline?
- What are your plans for the Hard Deadline?
- Evaluation
- How will the student evaluate his/her own work?
- How will the student evaluate his/her peers' work?
- How will the teacher provide feedback for the learning growth?
- Further questions
- How will the learners (including the teacher) share what additional questions and/or learning that are left from the project's experiences?
