H1N1 and TPLC

Remember to Use Healthy Habits to Avoid the Flu
Health experts are predicting a severe flu season. USD253 and TPLC are working closely with the Lyon County Health Department and Kansas Department of Health and Environment to educate students, staff and parents about ways to prevent a widespread outbreak in our community.

TPLC teachers will be sharing information with students about good health habits.  We also ask everyone in the TPLC community to follow these simple health rules:

  •  Cover your cough. Watch the video "Why Don't We Do It In Our Sleeves"
  •  Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing.
  •  Keep your hands off your face, eyes, nose and mouth.
  •  Keep your fingers, pencils and other objects out of your mouth.
  •  Stay home if you are sick (stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone).
  •  Do not share personal items (drinks, cups, combs, cell phones, etc.).
  •  Use a tissue if needed, throw away immediately, then wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Practice good handwashing habits and techniques.
For more information, check out the Center for Disease Control flu website

Turning Point Learning Center will be following the procedures and recommendations of USD253 regarding prevention and potential school closings due to flu outbreak in the Emporia community.

We ask that if your child is having flu symptoms, you keep him/her home until the fever has subsided for 24 hours.

If warranted by extreme circumstances, Turning Point students will be allowed to work from home, using our online curriculum to continue their education. Parents will still need to provide their own internet connection.
