The Captain William Farley Chapter #15
Order of Confederate Rose Society
SCV Camp #40, Brigadier General Samuel McGowan Building
Laurens, SC

Our History

The Captain William Farley Chapter was chartered in 2005 under the guidance of Yvonne Knight who became the first President of the chapter. The SCV Camp 40 Commander Ludie Watkins was instrumental in the chartering of the chapter. The chapter was organized as an auxiliary of the camp and with the purpose of aiding the camp in raising operational funds. The chapter was considered to be disbanded from July of 2007 until June of 2009 when it was reorganized under Yvonne Knight. The chapter is once again an active and vital part of the SCV Camp 40.

Our Mission

Our primary mission is to aid the McGowan Camp #40 in raising operational funds and in providing a pleasant and friendly atmosphere for the camp at their monthly meetings. A meal is prepared and served monthly by the ladies of the chapter. A fee of $3 -$5 is charged depending on the cost to reimburse ladies preparing the meal. All proceeds are given to the camp to offset operational costs. The chapter also is a setting for fellowship for ladies whose spouses may or may not be members of the camp.

Membership

Membership follows the state guidelines for OCR membership. Ladies do not have to have Confederate ancestry as set forth in the state guidelines. They should appreciate and support the goals of the camp and the chapter and the preservation of Confederate heritage.

Activities

During the 2011-2012 year, the Captain William Farley Chapter OCR will continue to build up and maintain the Samuel Ludie Watkins Memorial Library and serve a monthly meal to the men of the camp as a fund raiser.
