Updating Saves

Prior Reading:  Running Oblivion

These are an assortment of steps that can be taken to salvage or update existing saves.

Tips before you move on...
The console command "COC TestingHall" will take you to a separate world space wherein you can find all of vanilla Oblivion's content.  There you can test just about anything.  Many mods take advantage of this as well.
To get out of the testing hall:  Use "COC <cells editorID>" to go back to a different location.  You can find the cell ID for any cell in TES4Edit, or, in game, use the console command "sdt 0."
Example:  "COC Weye" takes you to the little house of the guy who give the slaughterfish quest.
Example:  "COC ChorrolMagesGuild" takes you to the Chorrol Mages Guild.

Updating and Removing Mods
  • Clean save (before updating)
  1. Remove the mod.
  2. Launch Oblivion.
  3. Go to an area unaffected by the mod (typing into the console "COC testinghall" is best, especially if you want to clear the effects on a cell or are changing respawn behavior.)
== HowTo get the cell ID in order to return, if using the testinghall method ==
== to get the cell ID ==
    1. Open the console.
    2. Enter "TDT" (toggle debug text).
    3. If the cell ID is not in the upper-left corner already, use the console command "SDT 0".
      >> notes:  a link listing all of the SetDebugText pages can be found in the "Related Resources" section
  4. Save the game there.
  5. Exit the game.
  6. Add the updated version of the mod, if updating.
  7. (COC Testinghall method) Use "COC <cell ID>" to get back to the cell in Tamriel that you want.
    >> notes:   If you have no preference, just use "COC Weye" to get to the house of the slaughterfish guy.
