Trips/Events For 2012
Jan 24th Annual Membership Meeting.
Where: Berger Center.
Time: 5pm - 7pm.
As usual the meeting will start with greetings from President Helen Herbert, with a
recount of our activities during the past year. The next order of business will be
the election of officers for the ensuing year. Following the election and seating
of officers for the new year, Vice-President Carolyn Mack will expound on the
projected trips and events for the year 2012. This is always a highlight of the
meeting. Treasurer and membership Chairman, Terry Leuthner, will give a year
end report to the membership.
At the conclusion of the business meeting, there will be an open wine bar and
an array of refreshments available for your enjoyment.
Before the meeting starts, time will be available for you to pay dues for the new
year. Your Officers and Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the
dues remain fixed at $5.00 per member (Now that's a bargin!). If you are unable
to attend the meeting, please make check for $5.00 payable to "Oakmont Walkers"
and mail to Terry Leuthner, Treasurer, at 429 Twin Lakes Circle, or drop it off at
his address, or put it in the Walkers Folder in the OVA Office.
Feb 23rd Lunch on the Delta King and a docent led tour of the CA. State R.R. Museum in
Sacramento.
Where: Sacramento Railroad Museum & the Delta King.
Leave: Berger Center 9am by bus.
Return: Approx 6pm.
Price: $57 per person, includes lunch, bus, gratuities and entry into
Railroad Museum.
We will go directly to the Delta King, historic steamboat, for lunch. As many of you
know, the Delta King has a storied history. In the 1920's, its steel hull was built in
Scotland: the sections were assembled, marked for reassembly, taken apart and
shipped by freighter to San Francisco. The Delta King carried passengers between
San Francisco and Sacramento. However in 1927, the Carquinez Bridge opened
and provided a road link between San Francisco and Sacramento, thus limiting
the use of riverboat service. When the war broke out, the Delta King was drafted
by the U.S. Navy for use as a net tender, barracks, hospital ship and troop transport.
In 1984, a family bought the Delta King. It took nearly five years to transform the
riverboat into an elegant floating hotel with restaurant, bar, theater, banquet and
conference centers. The menu for lunch is:
Either burger, fish and chips or vegetable rigatoni, plus dessert, coffee and tea.
In the restaurant you will be given an individual menu to see what is included
with your entree. Place your order at the table.
NOTE: No need to write your meal choice on your check.
The Railroad Museum is only a short distance from the Delta King, in old Sacramento
State Historic Park. The Museum is a world renown attraction with both stationary
and changing exhibits. Included in the Museum's 100,000 sq ft are the reconstructed
Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station and Freight Depot plus the 1849 Eagle
Theater. We will enjoy a detailed, guided tour of the Museum. If you get tired of the
Museum, you may walk through Old Sacramento, visit the stores and maybe buy an
ice cream cone.
Please send check made out to "Oakmont Walkers" to Carolyn Mack at 318 Stone
Creek Circle. Trip is limited to 45, so send your money in as soon as possible.
Call Carolyn at 537-7347 for additional info.

Apr 19th Guided tour of Santa Rosa & Lunch at Santa Rosa Junior College.
Where: Guided Tour of Sanat Rosa and Lunch at the New Culinary Cafe
of Santa Rosa Junior College.
Leave: Berger Center 10:30am by bus.
Return: Approx 3:30pm.
Price: $55 per person.
The Walkers will host a guided tour of Santa Rosa and visit parts of the city
you may never have seen. Do you know the neighborhoods, or about the
1964 division of the city, or about the square? These and many other
questions will be answered as we tour the city.
Our bus tour will reveal historic districts and accent memorable architecture
including Burbank Gardens, Cherry Street, West End, and the Junior College
neighborhoods. Both historic and architectural issues will be made clear by
Historic Architect Mark Perry. He has provided architectural tours and course
work through the Junior College and the California Preservation Foundation.
Because this tour takes us on older streets that limit the size of the bus, we will
be taking two small buses and limiting each bus to 20 passengers. Mark Perry's
lecture will be heard on both buses and he plans to be on both buses alternately.
We will stop mid-day and have lunch at the Santa Rosa Junior College Culinary
Cafe. Our three-course meal will consist of salad, a choice of entree, desert,
iced tea and coffee. There is also a vegetarian entree on the menu. We will be
one of the first groups to have lunch at this new facility.
There will be some walking through the Burbank Gardens and perhaps other
places.
Because of limited space, it is crucial to send your check in early. Seating on
the bus is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please make your check out to
the "Oakmont Walkers" and mail to Carolyn Mack at 318 Stone Street Circle.
Call 537-7347 for any additional information.

visit a wildlife exhibit and the rehabilitation facility. Their program addresses
wildlife emergencies and provides services to understand problems facing
wildlife in Sonoma County.
Afterward, we will have lunch at the Boyd Mansion, which is now the Elk's
Club of San Rafael. Our menu consists of Roasted Pork, with Tomato Basil
Ragu, Orzo Pasta, green salad, rolls and cheesecake. If you do not want pork,
a larger portion of pasta will be served.

on the National Historic Register. The Queen Anne Victorian, designed by
Clinton Day and built in 1888, was purchased by Captian Robert Dollar in 1906.
Falkirk is named after Dollar's birthplace in Scotland. His descendants occupied
the house until 1970. The house is now owned by the city of San Rafael.

318 Stone Creek Circle. If you do not want pork, please write "NO PORK" on
