We're Rolling Against Props 23 and 26!
This past Saturday and Sunday we leafleted farmers markets in El Cerrito, Temescal, Grand Lake, and Montclair. Many thanks to Suzanne and Mike York, Dan Rademacher, Axel Lewis, Henry Schott, Chris High, Lauren Zaira, and Jim Hanson for coming out. In the photo below, Jim Hanson, left, and Lauren Zaira, right, leafleting and talking to passers-by at the Grand Lake farmers market. We also contacted over 500 people on Saturday through the phone banking at the Sierra Club office. Thanks to Kendrick Lewallen for organizing this.
We still have a range of ways you can take part. To get details or to sign up for any of these, email eastbayclimate@gmail.com. For all of these, we'll have scripts and/or printed leaflets ready for you.
1. Phone Banking
The Sierra Club has a major effort to reach tens of thousands of voters across the state to get them to vote NO on Prop 23. This is among the biggest voter drives undertaken by the club in recent elections. We need your help! and it's not that hard for anyone with a cell phone and a laptop to take part. We'll be calling local sympathetic voters, so this should be highly effective and satisfying work.
Upcoming:

Come to one of those, host your own, or we'll find another party for you on a date when you can make it.
2. Leafleting at BART Stations
As the election gets closer, we'll hit the streets bright and early to give people some reading material and food for thought as they head to work. These shifts run early, 6:30 am - 8:30 am. But, hey, by the time you get to the rest of your own day, you'll know you've already done great work for California's green future.
We're looking for folks to staff these days and stations:
- October 26: MacArthur, 6:30 am - 8:30 am
- November 1: Fruitvale, Rockridge, 6:30 am - 8:30 am
As ever, if you want to leaflet at the station closest to you on a day convenient for you, just let us know and we'll get you set up with materials.
Climate Action in Oakland
This fall, the City of Oakland will release a revision of its ambitious draft Energy and Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 36% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.
The Sierra Club is part of the Oakland Climate Action Coalition. We support the city's targets, and want to see them achieved in ways that move us toward a more equitable, sustainable Oakland: clean up air pollution, create local green-collar jobs, save residents money, and improve public health.
The Climate Action Coalition has created a list of policies that can achieve significant carbon reductions while building a vibrant local economy and improving the quality of life for all Oakland residents. Oakland Sierra Club activists are aiming to get 1,000 Oakland residents to sign on support a strong, equitable, and sustainable climate action plan. Help us confront global warming, in Oakland, for Oakland, by Oakland!
The
Oakland Climate Action Coalition is a cross-sector coalition of
community-based organizations, environmental experts and advocates,
labor unions, and green businesses working for an equitable and just
Oakland Energy and Climate Action Plan (ECAP).
