From Oakhanger:

President’s Evening

On Saturday 19th September, Oakhanger Village Hall Committee will be hosting this year’s President’s Evening. The President, Vice-presidents and all the residents of Oakhanger aged 60 or over, and their partners, will be sent invitations a little later in the year. Or, so we hope, but there is always the concern that someone newly eligible has not been recognised as such. So, if you have not received an invitation as the time draws near, are eligible and would like to come, please let Marion Geddes know on 477289.

Sing for Joy Concert

The Sing for Joy group run by Lorraine Marshall and Kevin Jacot gave their end of term concert in a marquee on the Village Green on the 18th July. It was a delightful evening with a wide ranging programme of music: solos through to four part harmonies, and pop through to gospel. Pimms and strawberries were served at the interval and a splendid raffle was run to raise money for the Village Hall funds. A thoroughly enjoyable evening for participants and audience alike!!

Report from Selborne Parish Council; Wed 8th July

1        The most valuable part of the meeting was a presentation and question session concerning Shortheath |Common. It was confirmed that HCC continue to own and manage the 58.4 hectares of the common. Natural England continues in its role of providing guidance and assenting activities on the Site of Special Scientific Interest. The team responsible for the common have an office base at Staunton Country Park under the supervision of Andy Parfitt the Sites Manager. Day to day responsibility is by Susanne Frost who is the countryside ranger. HCC outlined their responsibilities and initiatives and local people reminded them of their concerns which included trespass on the common by local properties, vehicle infringements, track abuse, rubbish and burning. It was suggested that the Common forum which existed under a previous ranger be reinstated

2        Contacts to HCC  for problems and causes for concern is 023 9247 6411.

3        The next meeting is at Blackmoor Village Hall on Wed 12th August at 7.30pm.
