A Quick insight

The Village
Oakhanger is another village which makes up the Parish of Selborne. It is mentioned by Gilbert White and is purported to be one of the earliest Neolithic sites where man domesticated wild animals. A Roman road passed through the village but there are no visible signs of its existence. On its path is built a large space satellite tracking station at the south end of the village. This is in marked contrast to the thatched 18th Century cottages adjacent.
Shortheath Common
Shortheath Common backs onto the village and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is now owned by Hampshire County Council.
Commercial Activities
There are two commercial activities in the village; 'Coomers' a large DIY and building materials supplier (open Monday - Saturday) and 'Springfield Nurseries' a very flourishing garden centre which is open every day throughout the year.
