As you know, LINZ made significant changes to our 1:50,000 scale topographical map series. In particular, the new Topo50 series uses new grid coordinates and latitude and longitude points. While Mungo Hut will still be where it's always been, the coordinates for Mungo Hut (and all other huts) have changed on the new Topo50 series. In addition, emergency services have prepared for the change and are using the Topo50 maps from 23 September 2009.

 We encourage you to move to the new maps.

 ·        International standards - the new maps are compatible with international standards and modern navigational technology such as GPS. If you have a GPS unit you can find a guide to converting your device by clicking here.

 ·        Map reading references - projection parameters now provide more information for the map user, and map reading references are grouped together.

 ·        Additional information - the legend now references relevant warning notes and important information. The back cover displays a locality indicator, to see where the map fits within the region. Adjacent sheet names are shown on the reference panel. 

 ·        Electronic versions - Topo50 maps are available for download here. The data may be edited within third party software applications. You may also wish to use LINZ's coordinate converter tool to convert coordinates you've noted on your old maps.
