Jenny Jeffries : Artist Painter

I
love painting - so much so, that I haven't defined any particular style
as my favourite yet. I started out in oils, and I've moved into
acrylics just because I enjoy the speed with which I can work in them.
I started out in ink and gouache, using a technique known as 'gouache
resist' which makes good use of the untamed black line I so love.
You'll see the influence of that technique in all my applied work -
both in oil and acrylic. My blog site is kept up to date with the
latest work, so do have a wander through it. Many of these pieces of
work have sold, but I have done commissions or painted a similar
picture for those who ask.

Jemma Turns Nineteen 800 x 1000 x 40 Acrylic on boxed board $800 My niece Jemma – somewhat shy – preparing herself for blowing the candles out. Very lively rough use of the brush, so the painting looks great from a distance and quite impressionist up close. |
Walk in the Waitakeres 1010 x 760 x 40 Oil on boxed canvas $900 This was a favourite to paint. So many shades of green and dappled light filtering through and the onward call of the distant light at the end of the path. I used the full range of brushes through to palette knife to try to get the textures. On my wall, the two spotlights I have just above the painting pick out the palette strokes at night, and change the mood entire |

Ngaroto Nursery and Gardens
910 x 610 x 40 Oil on boxed canvas $700 I spend a lot of time at the nursery and enjoy the rolling green hills after living in Auckland where there is no such horizon line. The textures in the gardens are amazing and really suited a rough palette knife approach

Ladies in Pink Cafe 910 x 610 x 30 Oil on boxed canvas $600
This
is a vigorously painted picture, using palette knife, which brings to
life the movement and chatter of a group of women enjoying coffee and
cake at a cafe. Painting the cakes was a bit like laying on thick
icing. The cafe was all in tones of pink which added to the delicious
occasion. |
