Dan Tucker - Artist Sculptor

NZ  Art For Sale .com

I was brought up by parents who sailed their home-built yacht at every opportunity they had and now live on board as their chosen lifestyle. Being one of five brothers who have all been brought up on and around the sea, I have spent a great deal of time sailing around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

The ocean and sea shore give me great inspiration and most of my work reflects this. I also have a clear view of human's connection with our surrounding earth and native environment and the importance of keeping this link strong.

My travels and work experience, prior to calling myself an Artist, have given me an opportunity to see a broader horizon and much inspiration.  I have worked as a Commercial Fisherman, Salmon farmer, Sea Lions and Albatrosses researcher in the Sub Antarctic, as well as sailing out to Mururoa protesting against nuclear testing.

As a result I feel I have an unsheltered view of our current environment and understand the contradictions we as humans constantly exhibit.

All prices include delivery and installation, within reason, also commissions welcome.

NZ art, driftwood art, 'Vessel' Art by Dan Tucker.

Vessel

This sculpture was carved from an ancient  Totara driftwood log found at Makara Beach situated on the rugged south west coast of New Zealand's North Island. With Totara inlay from Tora an isolated beach on the Wiarapa coast and marble from Taka hill near Golden Bay in the South Island.

It was carved by Dan Tucker and Paul Quested.
We wanted to create a functional stylized wooden seat, but also keep the basic form     of  the driftwood.

We have used the theme of the sea, which is treasured by us both, and enhanced   the original form to capture the movement power and beauty of the ocean

Totara drift wood, Marble.         3m long 1.4m round   $17000

 Sea Saw

This piece was carved for the lake house wood symposium in April 07,
the previous four months I had been building a 30ft ocean going outrigger canoe to sail from Tasmania to New Zealand
and that had consumed all my time and focus, so my mind was on canoes, what else could I sculpt.
Sea Saw is floating, balanced, anchored but still moves in the wind,
a monument to the beginning of boat craft.

Carved from Norfolk pine.
3m long, 1.5m high, 2m wide
$5200

Wave Tale
There is an energy that emits from the ocean, powerful enough to shape the land.
The sound of the waves on the beach is a lot like talk.
If you could understand that language imagine the tales the sea could tell
Carved from Blue gum,
2m long 1.5m round
$7800

I had the stone so gave it a go.
Could be turned into a great water feature.
