“It was a Saturday morning in January 2003 and I was sitting in the auditorium in Nanyang Girls’ High School attending the parents' segment of the Secondary 1 Orientation.
When Mdm Mak, the previous principal said, "Even if a girl scores perfect marks, it means nothing if her character is flawed!". I was really impressed by the school's emphasis on character building. At that very moment, I decided to join the parent support group to give back to the school what the school will be doing for my daughter. And from that moment, it was nothing but lots of joy & fun! My daughter had 4 great years in the school. I made so many good friends among teachers & parents, I had 2 great foster daughters, both of which brought tremendous joy to me and my family, and the amount of satisfaction I derived from taking part in all the parent support activities over the years cannot be described! “My foster family in Singapore brings much warmth and happiness to me when I am far away from home. They treat me as one of the family. Within a short year, we have grown close to each other. My foster sister also studies in NYGH. We meet up sometimes over lunch in the school canteen. I really appreciate their kindness. Whenever I think of the all places we visited and things we did together, I don’t feel lonely at all. Festivals are usually celebrated with me in their home. I have gradually adapted to life in Singapore .. My heart will always be with them...”
