Weekly Events

Monday, July 27th

During the Evening: Another great installment by Bryant Park Films, starting at sundown, but I would head down there earlier.

The Defiant Ones (1958)
Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis are opposites unhappily shackled together after escaping from a chain-gang in the South. As they flee from the police, director Stanley Kramer showcases the humorous and moving situations featuring memorable characters the fugitives come across as they fight for their
lives.

During the Evening: If you are growing tired of the Bryant Park Films, head over to Elevated Acre at 8pm to see The Sweet Smell of Success. The Elevated Acre is located at 55 Water Street, New York, NY, USA

(1957) J. J. Hunsceker (Burt Lancaster), is a tyrannical Broadway columnist for the New York Globe who rules his demimonde with the press's power to create or destroy. Sidney Falco (Tony Curtis), is the hustling publicist who is consumed by desperate ambition and hates himself because of it; he will do anything to gain the admiration of Hunsceker. Shot on location in midtown with dialogue by Clifford Odets, this film captures the hardscrabble world of New York City journalism. Featuring a short film screening by New York filmmaker Peter Hutton

I will be working into the late evening and will most likely be missing the event

Tuesday, July 28th

During the Evening: One of my favorites, King Britt, plays as part of R2R at 9PM at the World Financial Center Winter Garden. I would go, but my band has a show. I will happily drive people up to New Paltz if necessary.

King Britt has pioneered all things soulful, rhythmically textured and melodically provocative. Easily synthesizing random genres into a marvelous flow,
tonight he honors cosmic jazz explorer and pioneer, Sun Ra.
