Summer Camp

2012 North American Tibetan Cultural Immersion Camp:

The Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association (NWTCA) has been organizing Tibetan summer camp since 1998. In year 2007, the NWTCA and the Office of Tibet (OOT), New York, decided to jointly organize the camp every year in order to strengthen the camp and also to facilitate Tibetan children (between the age of 7 and 13 years) throughout North America to participate in this Junior North American Tibetan Cultural Immersion Camp.

Age Restrictions:
If your child is 13 years of age on or before the date Camp Starts. If your child is 13 years & 364 days they qualify if 14! SORRY... Based on the day Camp Starts each year. If younger than 7yrs, parents wish to stay there with the children, it is OK provided the parent also follow the rules of the Camp and pays all associated fees and help at the Camp.

Purpose of the Camp:
To familiarize Tibetan youngsters to their culture, language, music & dance and also to the essence of Tibetan Buddhism

To create an environment for Tibetan youngsters from different parts of North America to develop friendship amongst themselves and to widen their social network.

To bring Tibetan youngsters closer to the values of Tibetan culture and to give them a sense of belonging.

Activities at the Camp:
The camp participants are divided into two groups based on age- a younger group of age below 10 and older group of age above 10. During this week long camp children of both groups explore different aspects of the Tibetan culture and way of life.

Apart from daily meditation, reciting prayers, and discourse on Buddhist philosophy, children explore various aspects of Tibet like festivals, animals, mountains, provinces, cities, monasteries, great emperors, Dalai Lamas, palaces, rivers, lakes, etc. These explorations are activity-based with facilitators assisting children at every step.

Along with the above explorations, the children also learn at least two Tibetan songs and one complete dance. We also emphasize on developing leadership skills. Last year we invited Students for a free Tibet’s Executive Director, Tenzin Dorjee la, who had a very interesting session with our camp participants.

In order to widen children’s understanding of the Tibetan culture, video film presentations are also arranged.

Sports and Entertainments:
To keep children active and involved, the camp also includes outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, volleyball, badminton, bonfire, etc.

Fees:
Members - $150.00(full), per day $25.00
Non-members - $225.00(full), per day $35.00
