Geania Dickey and Sue Remfrey of Arkansas State University (ASU) Childhood Services hosted a "Better Beginnings Roundtable" at All 'Bout Chalk - Gentry ABC to a great group of over 40 attendees!  Mrs. Dickey and Mrs. Remfrey shared some information on the history, development and implementation of the Better Beginnings program.   Discussion included details about the application process, requesting Technical Assistance, finding resources and where to find answers to your questions.  As of now, there are 694 early childhood programs in Arkansas participating in the Better Beginnings program!  More information is available on the Better Beginnings website at www.arbetterbeginnings.com or by calling 1.800.445.3316.  Also, if you would like to help with NWAECA's fundraising project this year - Arkansas Voices for Children Left Behind you can purchase the book:  "What Will Happen to Me?" by Dr. Howard Zehr.  The book is $15.00 and details some of the stories and thoughts of children with incarcerated parents.  Very touching and heartbreaking!

DHS  Licensing Specialists Korrin McDowell, Candace Gonzalez and Melissa Myers were in attendance to show providers how to access and use the Division's new Child Care Webpage, found at https://dhs.arkansas.gov/DCCECE/CCLAS/.  The new site allows providers to do many things online such as submitting paperwork, alternate compliance forms, etc and will reduce the Division's carbon footprint by helping them go "paperless".  In addition, providers can apply for licensure, renewal or registration, and maintain up-to-date information about programs.  There is a Resources section with regulations, immunization schedules, rates worksheets and contact information. Most importantly, the website will be the primary source of communication between DHS and providers.  All Notices regarding your Facility will be posted on the website; they will not be mailed unless you ask, in writing, to recieve Notices by USPS mail.  For more information on using your Webpage you can access a User Manual from the Child Care Home Page by clicking on Resources, then User Manual.  If you hae any questions, you may contact your licesing specialist.

The KIDDOS put a new twist on some ole’ fashioned goodies and weave a special magic with their creative new tunes written especially for the young, or the young at heart for the NWAECA!   The KIDDOS are two grownups that never forgot what it was like to be a kid!  The married duo of Randy and Debbie Mays delight audiences with their kid tested style to engage and entertain kids from 9 - 92.  Randy is a seasoned musician with roots in the Mississippi Delta blues. He takes his past musical style and blends it with his love of early childhood to create and eclectic, fun musical style that kids love!  Debbie is a preschool teacher, mom and grandmother.  Her passion for children is evident in the way her face lights up as children's voices join her on stage.  She also just happens to be NWAECA's president this year!  :) For more information on The KIDDOS visit their website at http://kiddosmusic.com/.
