The Ensemble Raum was created by Paulo Duarte, Roland Cernovada, Frederica Gatchman and Barabara Lagido with the purpose of playing music from unpublished composers independently from their cultural and academic background. The ideia brought together several musiciens from diferent eastetic corners to play, work and learn with eachother.
The Ensemble Raum had its debut in Braga (Portugal) at the Biennial of Young Artists 1999. The success of the performance among public and press led the group to perform at all the major music venues in Portugal from Hot Clube de Portugal to Coliseu do Porto. In 2001 the Ensemble Raum was invited to perform for the President of the Republic of Portugal Jorge Sampaio at the opening of Lugar Comum - Centro de Experimentação Artistica da Fabrica da Polvora. In 2002 the group was invited to perform at Centro Cultural de Belém.
