While in the store, help your child to interpret the Nutrition Facts found on the packages of healthy and unhealthy food.

Model healthy eating at home such as replacing white bread with whole grain, whole milk with skim, fresh fruit snacks, replace soda with water or 100% fruit juice, and limit the processed foods to a minimum.

If you, as a parent, bring your lunch to work, elicit your child's help in choosing its contents.

So as not to make your child feel deprived of all the "good stuff", allow him to choose one snack per day that will satisfy his need for fun food.
