Coaches

Janis Luby

Janis Parisi Luby is the head coach of the Northwestern University Triathlon Team. Certified by the United States Association of Triathlon and the American Council on Exercise since 2003, Janis has trained over 150 amateur triathletes in the Chicago area. Her Master's degree in Education combined with her passion and competitive background in the sport of triathlon, enhance Janis' coaching skills while keeping the training interesting and fun.

Janis, who is a certified Pilates instructor, introduced and taught the team mat Pilates to encourage economy of motion, spinal alignment for proper posture and lengthened muscles shortened by grueling workouts. With a lot of initial apprehension, the team worked hard to master their open chair rocker's and teaser's; they actually ended the season looking forward to their Pilates sessions. Hence, the Northwestern Triathlon Team had a secret weapon at the National Collegiate Championships in 2008, superior powerhouses!
In her heyday, Janis ranked 20th in her age group as an amateur triathlete, but now lives through the successes of the athletes she coaches. When she is not coaching or running her private personal training studio, SCULPT, Janis is either at home cooking up a scrumptious meal, playing black-jack with her children or running along the lakefront with her water-bottle holder, Rex.
