ISE Logo Voting

Please vote here for your favourite DESIGN! The chosen one will probably be used to represent us for many years.

 Item No.  Design  Description
1   Red and yellow are chosen as they are bright and vibrant. They represent the power and passion of the ISE students.  On the whole, this logo depicts an eye, which represents the ISE has the foresight and always searching (for ways to improve efficiency).  The “Lightning” shape at the top is originated from the letter “S”, which stands for systems in ISE. It is purposefully shaped like a lightning to signify speed, which means that ISE is a study to speed up processes in industries. For the eyeball, the yellow lines in the eyeball are actually made up of 4 different orientations of the letter “E”. The different orientations of “E” are meant to represent different angles at which ISE are able to look at the different engineering fields.  “E” (Engineering) seems to be spinning and revolving in the eyeball, which represents that with ISE’s foresight, the engineering field’s processes are speeded up. Lastly, the letters ISE being bolded in the eyeball shows ISE is able to fit in all engineering industries. It is used to enforce the idea that although the engineering industries can exist with ISE, it’ll stand out (perform better) with ISE.

'I' is in the shape of a person, which symbolizes ise students. 'SE' can be pronounced as 'see'. Together they mean 'ISE students can see the solution from a mist of confusion'. It also means a sudden strike of inspiration, 'aha, i see!' All three characters are square in shape to show that we are neat and systematic in dealing things. The red dot of ' I ' is popping out to show that we always think out of the box. The characters are a bit 3-d to show the problems we are facing are not flat. it also add points to the aesthetic feeling.
In contrast to the rigid font with strait lines, the background is soft and consists of only curves. This depticts the two sides of ise students, hidden the strict and precise impression, there is a soft and tendering inner side. For the choice of colour: red and blue, like women and men, perfect match!

The red symbolizes the passion of ISE student.  Dark Grey is associated with sophistication, rational mind and logic to give the image that ISE student is COOL & CALM.

The candle is to symbolize the light of knowledge, enlightenment, and wisdom
also correspond to the "seeking " in the motto.
Some of the corners are sharp , some are
round . It shows that we are able to think both in square and circle, meaning that ISE student is flexible while holding to our principals. Its origin can be traced back to the Chinese Saying about "Fang and Yuan" ( square and circle )

The combination of Red and Dark Grey show that we are passionately driven people, yet guided by  logic and rationality, which is crucial to our success.

The graphics show that we are flexible when holding to our principals and always searching for better solutions and more enlightenment.

I have added a motto/slogan ----- Always seeking the better. In fact , the whole design revolves around this theme.

Black and orange are chosen for this logo as orange is one of the school colors, as we are part of the big NUS community, it is good that we recognize our root. Moreover, bright orange signifies energy. Being the most active department in the FoE, the ISE student can be best represented by orange. Black is subsequently chosen because they are the best combination. Black also represents mystery, i.e. there is always something more to be discovered from a ISE student.
I did not explicitly "place" the "ISE" anywhere in my design, instead, I use shapes to represent each of the letters. "I" forms the head and body of the flying bird; "S" is the one of her wings while "E" forms the other wing. In this wing, I have successfully and creatively incorporated into the design the main word “ISE”. Hopefully, when people see the logo, the reaction goes: " Oh~ I see. This is "I", this is "S" and that is "E". Very interesting!"
The overall shape of this design is a flying bird, or rather, a bird taking off her fly. This symbolizes the wish that all ISE students could all be "high-flyers" after they graduate. On the other hand, the design could also be interpreted as a "torch", which signifies light and hope, because we are all young and promising future leaders!
This is representative of us ISE  students as ISE, being the best department in the FoE (or so we deem ourselves as), will definitely be high-flyers upon graduation!

Orange and blue were chosen as they are the colour theme of NUS.

The word “ISE” is in the shape of a globe, this is to symbolize the promoting and reaching out of ISE to the world. Also to create an impact - an impact throughout the world.

Bottom design is the shape of a bridge, this means "business and engineering" and "bridges operations and management".

Overall, this logo symbolizes that a ISE student is able to have a global outreach and bridge the world with our knowledge.

The reason to choose black-and-white over colour for my design is to achieve maximum contrast so that people can immediately identify the main focus of the design -- "ISE" without having to give it any thought. The letter "I" is in the shape of a person, which represents the interactiveness of the ISE community. The letter "S" is shown climbing up a ladder, which implies that ISE students always strive to achieve greater heights in their own fields. This design aims to portrait ISE as bold, sophisticated and people-oriented.
