What is NURVE?

The Big Picture:

NURVE is the Nystrom United ReVitalization Effort that is happening right now in Richmond.

City agencies and community partners have teamed up to rebuild and revitalize the area surrounding the Nystrom Elementary School and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and Park.

The vision:
A safe, diverse, and thriving place where kids walk to quality schools, people of all ages use the parks, community facilities and trails, and a variety of housing options supporting a range of incomes that meet the needs of local residents.

A place where locally owned businesses provide jobs and services, residents have access to fresh, healthy food, health and social services are nearby, companies compete to locate, and excellent transit connects the entire community.

NURVE BUILDING PROJECTS:
Nystrom Elementary School
Green Building Design, New buildings such as a joint use multi-purpose facility

Maritime Child Development Center
Green renovation, home for Richmond College Prep Preschool and Rosie the Riveter Museum

MLK Community Center and Park
Green renovations, new programs, improvements

Nystrom Village
Redevelopment of 4 blocks of public housing, replacement with affordable units plus addition of senior and mixed income housing

Streetscape Improvements
Bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements, landscaping and drop-off locations; Cutting Boulevard; Commercial and housing development
