Big Burn at the Chook Farm

posted Jul 4, 2009 5:41 AM by Lou Cowan

A strategic burn was carried out at Inghams chook farm in Gulnare Road on Friday night last, to reduce the hazard in what is often the location of a large running grassfire in the height of the fire season. Approximately 22 hectares (55 acres) of mission grass and scrub vegetation was burnt. The glow in the sky from the flames and smoke was quite spectacular, being visible for miles around.

Two grassfire units from the Virginia/Bees Creek Brigade and one from the Koolpinyah Brigade assisted with the burn.
