Elliott

Elliott community is located on the Stuart Highway 254 kilometres south of Darwin.

The Elliott Fire and Emergency Response Group Headquarters is located on the Stuart Highway, and the Group is responsible for the Elliott Police District. The District covers an area of 62,000 square kilometres. This includes the pastoral properties of Beetaloo, Eva Downs, Helen Springs, Muckaty, Mungabroom, Murranji, Newcastle Waters, Ucharonidge and Hayfield.

The general topography of the district consists of relatively flat plains, mostly subject to inundation during heavy rainfall. The south of the district is bounded by the Ashburton Range. To the east of the Stuart Highway the area is mostly blacksoil plain whilst to the west the country is mainly sparse with sandy ridges.

The Elliott Fire & Emergency Response Group falls under the control of the NTES Southern Region. Currently the Group has approximately 23 dedicated members trained in a variety of emergency skills.

The Group carries out the full range of normal Emergency Service tasks, and holds equipment for response to fire, road accident rescue and flood incidents.
