Adelaide River is located on the Stuart Highway approximately 110 kilometres south of Darwin.
The Adelaide River Fire and Emergency Response Group (FERG) Headquarters is located near the Adelaide River Police Station, and the Group is responsible for the Adelaide River Police District. The District covers an area from Acacia Store to Hayes Creek on the Stuart Highway, to the Mary River eastwards and to Tipperary Station and the Douglas area westwards. The general topography of the district consists of undulating plains and numerous rocky outcrops with varying vegetation from paperbark swamps to dense woodland with rainforest pockets. The Adelaide River Group falls under the control of the Northern Territory Emergency Service Northern Region. Currently the Group has approximately 12 dedicated members trained in a variety of emergency skills, who carry out the full range of normal fire, rescue and emergency tasks. It holds equipment for response to fire and road accident rescue incidents on a purpose-built rescue trailer, which in emergency response is towed behind the grassfire unit (GFU).
