Professional Development

Ongoing Opportunities for professional development and content learning:

Research Avenues for Iowa Science Educators (RAISE) - Secondary science teachers from across Iowa are paired during the summer with research scientists at UNI.

Planetarium/ Observatory Shows:

The Department of Earth Science Planetarium is open for presentations to the public.

Engaging Iowa - A program to engage K-12 students and teachers and the public with UNI in many ways: a Young Scientists Camp for middle school students, science kits and update conferences for teachers and Citizen Science presentations for the public

Other Professional Development Opportunites:

There are after school programs both at PLS and in Cedar Valley
schools.

Tutoring options are available such as tutoring and making
presentations for the TRIO program - both evenings and on Sat. mornings

With the new George Washington Carver Academy (alias Logan Middle
School) open in waterloo with a STEM emphasis.
And, the Carver Academy will be offering after school classes.

Attending student NSTA meetings themselves.

Workshops and on campus lectures that pertain to education. There are 2-3 spotlights on ed. offered at noon each semester.
