Journal Entries

Each student has a composition book within which they will write (sometimes draw) their journal entries.  Entries are assigned at the beginning of the week and, unless noted otherwise, are due on Friday at 2:30.  With the exception of lists, poems, pictures and the like, journal entries are expected to be one page in length.

27.  All Saints Day is, for some, an opportunity to think about the departed.  Write about someone you have lost.  You can also write about death in general if you have not experienced the loss of someone close to you.

24.  How can autumn be a metaphor for life?
 
25.  Has your family always lived in Lancaster County?  As best you can trace their migratory route to this place. You can do this through a diagram, a map or the written word.
 
26.  Starting with any word you choose, write a list of twenty words. The last letter of the first word will be the first letter of the second word.  Continue this pattern throughout.  The last word will finish with the first letter of the first word.

Please do this work on a sheet of notebook paper.  You could also compose this work in GoogleDocs.  If you do this I could read and help you edit it while I am away. 

 

Write a piece about responsibility as it appears in The Little Prince

 

Try to include a topic statement such as…

            Responsibility is a major theme in The Little Prince.

 

As per our conversation, there are three major places where responsibility appears.

            The Little Prince and volcanoes, baobab trees  (People and things)

            The Little Prince and the Rose (People/relationships)

            The pilot and his airplane (Adult responsibility)

16. We have been talking about Human Fundamental Needs.  Write about the need for food.  How has the way humans have met this need changed over time?

17. Describe your trip to school from your home until you reach the fourth floor.

14. You have done entries related to peace and non-peace.  How can people develop peace in themselves, in their interactions with others and how can nations have peace?

10.  Last week you wrote about peace and what it means.  This entry is about non-peace (or conflict or war).  What is the cause of non-peace?  Think about this on personal, community-wide and national/international levels.

 

11.  Write your Eye article.  You are welcome to write this in your journal or you can type your article.  Please know that you will be required to type your article and transfer it to the Eye template. 

 

12. Draw a picture of you doing something you like.

8. This is the thrid week of school.  How is it going for you?  What do you like?  What is challenging?
 
9. Observe the classroom.  Write what you see, but only use verbs.
 
 
Week 2 - Due Friday, September 9
4.  Rememberance can be a powerful and meaningful thing.  It can also be a hinderance that can be a trap and stifle growth and progress.  Write a page about rememberance.  Why is it important?  Why do we need it?  What negitives, if any come up related to remembering the past.  Please try to use specifics as you deal with this topic.
 
5.  Write your Eye article.  You are welcome to write this in your journal or you can type your article.  Please know that you will be requried to type your article and transfer it to the Eye template.  (More on that process later.)
 
6.  Write a poem.

 
Week 1 - Due Thursday, September 1
1.  You turn over a rock.  What do you find?

2.  Make a list of the five most important questions humans can ask? (Hint: go below the surface.

3.  Write about one single event from the summer.  Note: I did not ask you to write about your summer or what you did this summer or where you went this summer!  I am asking you to write about one event.   This event could have taken place in an afternoon, in one day or over several days.
