Ottawa to Florida - Transiting the ICW

Captain Parke Davis talks about his trip from Ottawa to Ft Lauderdale by sailboat along the Intra Coastal Waterway followed by practical tips & things he learned. Share Waterparke's adventures including …from Collins Bay to Oswego –“Thank God for GPS”. Through the Oswego & Erie Canals where Waterparke learned to go up & down locks ad nauseam. Down the very scenic and very industrial Hudson Valley to New York Harbour. Anchoring at Newburgh where some water attacked Parke’s laptop & it drowned!

Then on to Great Kills Harbour waiting for “good weather” before attempting the dreaded “Jersey coast.” Wind from the south west (on the head) and 5 foot waves - in spite of the forecast, before reaching Cape May’s peaceful waters,  sun and rest. The new motto –“Never believe a forecast till afterwards.”

On through the 14 mile Chesapeake & Delaware Canal detouring for the Annapolis Boat Show. Early off to Deltaville on the Chesapeake, then travelling with the wind and waves sailing south to Norfolk

Congratulating ourselves on completing the first third, Waterparke was now ready to start the actual Norfolk – Miami section.
