Freelance Programmer/Analyst July 1999 – Present

Docket Systems, LLC — Developed DocketWorks, an Access database (using Access 2000 through Access 2007), using VBA, DAO and SQL. Database was used for managing legal dockets, and included modules for managing clients, matters, contacts, tracking foreign and domestic laws, time keeping, scheduling, billing, forms, and automated SMTP e-mail.

Bauman Rare Books — Designed, developed and maintained rare books Access database (using Access 97 through Access 2003), using VBA, DAO, SQL and T-SQL. Ported database from Access to SQL Server and administered SQL Server database (performed maintenance and backups, and developed stored procedures, schemas, views, and triggers). Accessed SQL Server data through ODBC linked tables and pass-through queries. Developed and maintained customer, book inventory, cataloging, invoicing, and other modules, and provided customer support for the database. Developed module for generating fully-formatted Word documents, using Rich Textbox controls within an Access form, and used Automation with Word and Outlook for other tasks. Created automatic SMTP e-mail notification system using CDO for Windows. Set up system to automatically update corresponding Web database on a nightly basis, and perform other nightly tasks. System was used by over 50 users in 3 locations using Remote Desktop Connection.

Remark Capital Group — Developed Access 2000 database for managing customer solicitations, including reporting, letter generation, etc., using VBA, DAO and SQL.

Dart Business Accessories — Developed Access 2000 database for developing and managing customer quotes for products, using VBA, DAO and SQL.

Internet Resources — Developed Access 2000 database for gasket manufacturing company, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Database tracked all aspects of business, including orders, materials acquisition, parts manufacturing, customer information, inventory, and invoicing. Wrote user’s guide for database in Word 2000.

Tripp Consulting — Provided enhancements to Access 97 book inventory database to create catalogs of inventory items, print invoices, and to create inventory descriptions as Word documents created through Automation and linked to database via OLE. Also provided functionality to create catalog documents and inventory lists in Word through Automation. Used VBA, DAO and SQL.

JC Penney — Enhanced lease tracking system developed in Access 97, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Provided functionality to create extract of estimated invoice information for entry into accounts payable system; developed module to archive data; significantly enhanced reporting, data entry, and lookup table features.

Centex Corp/CTX Mortgage — Developed Access 97 database to track employee performance cards, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Employee list and other lists were generated from ADP system export, with defunct data automatically archived. Developed Access 97 database to schedule employee training classes and to assign employees to classes. Complex reporting options were provided for both systems.

Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld —Developed Access 97 database to export records to and import records from Microsoft Outlook using Automation, as well as to automatically generate e-mail in Microsoft Outlook. Also enhanced functionality for document creation in Microsoft Word through Automation. Provided additional reports and enhancements. Used VBA, DAO and SQL.

Aloe Commodities International — Provided enhancements to Access 97 database used to track product sales and commissions, using VBA, DAO and SQL.

De La Porte & Associates — Developed Access 97 database for use with leadership development program, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Database tracked 360 feedback scores, employee development responses, personal goals, counseling sessions, and course work. Database provided extensive reporting.

Lead Programmer/Analyst First Tennessee Mortgage — April 1999 – June 1999

Led team of Access developers in converting a series of applications from Paradox to Access 97. Applications used Oracle as a back end and accessed data through ODBC linked tables and pass-through queries. Wrote modules that were used globally throughout the applications, implemented Access security, coordinated project details, and acted as a resource for other developers. Used VBA, DAO and SQL.

Enhanced existing Access 97 database used for tracking sales calls, using VBA, DAO and SQL.

Programmer Goodall Distributing — February 1999

Enhanced existing Access 97 database used for purchasing and invoicing. Added Access security to the system and documented the security. Used VBA, DAO and SQL.

Programmer/Analyst Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld — October 1998 – January 1999

Designed and developed contact management database for law firm using Access 97, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Database interfaced with Microsoft Word through Automation and with Banyon BeyondMail through DDE to automatically generate letterhead documents, envelopes, labels, e-mail messages, etc., for one or for a list of contacts. Database also managed client matters, tracking matter contents and storage information, and associating client matters with contacts. Wrote user's guide and administrator's guide for the database in Word for Windows, and provided hypertext version of user documentation.

Completed series of databases for Word Processing department pertaining to job tracking, time card tracking, and emergency notification information, using VBA, DAO and SQL.

Programmer PrimeCo Personal Communications — July 1998 – September 1998

Maintained and enhanced existing sales compensation management system using Access 97, using VBA, DAO and SQL. System was used to pay sales commissions, quarterly bonuses, etc.

Programmer GE Capital Real Estate — February 1998 – June 1998

Maintained and enhanced existing asset management system using Access 97, with Oracle back end data accessed through ODBC linked tables and pass-through queries. System was used to track property and loan assets. Redeveloped financial forecasting module, and provided documentation. Used VBA, DAO and SQL.

Programmer Remington Hotel Corporation — December 1997 – January 1998

Completed Access 97 database application for tracking room and catering contracts, booking goals, sales contacts and goals, etc., for various hotels, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Application included sophisticated querying and reporting, and was used in a multi-user environment, using the Access 97 runtime on a Citrix WinFrame server running Windows NT 3.51.

Programmer Electronic Data Systems — November 1997

Converted a series of databases from Q&A for DOS format to MS Access 95. Provided user documentation and trained users.

Programmer/Analyst Dallas County Schools — March 1997 – October 1997

Designed and developed database application consisting of modules for tracking bus routes, extracurricular trips, and payroll using Microsoft Access 2.0, using VBA, DAO and SQL. Bus route module tracked route hours, driver assignments, budget information, etc., and fed information to payroll module. Extracurricular trip module scheduled extracurricular trips, assigned drivers, completed trips, wrote driver hours to payroll module, and invoiced client. Payroll module reported driver hours by budget code, calculated adjustments from prior periods, and notified extracurricular trip module of any overtime hours for additional invoicing. All modules employed Access security in a multi-user environment, using the runtime version of Access on a Citrix WinFrame server running Windows NT 3.51. Wrote user documentation using Word for Windows.

Programmer/Analyst Exxon Corporation — April 1996 – March 1997

April 1996 – July 1996. Designed and developed database application for Records Management Department using Microsoft Access 2.0, using VBA, DAO and SQL. System tracked cartons of records that were checked out, checked in, destroyed, etc., and employed Access security in a multi-user environment. System also provided various reports, batch processes, and other administrative tools. Wrote user documentation using Word for Windows.

August 1996 – March 1997. Designed and developed database application for Procurement Department using Microsoft Access 2.0, using VBA, DAO and SQL. System consisted of various modules pertaining to the generation and tracking of purchase orders, entering and validation of receipt and invoice data pertaining to each order, and maintenance of vendor data, and employed Access security in a multi-user environment. System allowed for change orders and archiving of previous versions, as well as reports, batch processes, and other administrative tools. Wrote functional specs and user documentation using Word for Windows.

Programmer/Analyst Resource Biometrics, Inc. — June 1995 – August 1995; November 1995 – April 1996

Converted previously-developed ClinReport for use with Word for Windows 6.0, adding new features and enhancing existing ones. Wrote front end for the system in Visual Basic 3.0, using DDE to access the WordBasic code. Wrote design specs and functional specs for the system, updated the user’s guide and technical reference for the new version, and added an on-line help system.

Programmer/Analyst Exxon Corporation — May 1995; October 1995 – November 1995

Updated previously-developed Contract Generation System, enhancing features, adding new modules, and converting for use with Word for Windows 6.0.

Documentation Specialist BonAmi Software Corporation — August 1995 – September 1995

Wrote user’s guide and on-line help for the company’s Performance 95 product (a Windows 95 performance monitor). Also assisted in the design and testing of the software. User’s guide was written in Word for Windows.

Documentation Specialist Resource Biometrics, Inc. — January 1994 – March 1995

Set up documentation system and wrote standard operating procedures, user’s guides and technical references for data management functions and SAS applications. Performed final editing on user documentation, bringing content and style to an acceptable standard. System tested new SAS applications for functionality and design. Administrated Word for Windows system, developing templates and macros, providing support, writing training materials and training users.

Programmer/Analyst Exxon Corporation — September 1993 – December 1993

Designed and developed Contract Generation System, a WordBasic application which produced various contract documents based on user dialog box input. Once generated, the documents were automatically merged with existing data files to produce final contracts. Wrote user’s guide and system documentation for the system in Word for Windows.

Technical Writer/Editor Valent, USA — May 1993 – July 1993

Developed procedure manual for Accounting Department using user input and existing documentation as sources. Procedures included accounting functions and AS/400 tasks in the J.D. Edwards system. Documents were written and formatted in FrameMaker for Windows.

Programmer Resource Biometrics, Inc. — February 1993 – April 1993

Developed ClinReport, a WordPerfect macro application which converted SAS data to formatted WordPerfect documents. Data and formatting specifications were written to SAS output files, which were used to generate the documents with minimal user interaction. Formatting included headers, footers, footnotes, and other special items. Wrote user’s guide and technical reference for the application in WordPerfect for Windows.

Technical Writer/Editor Bank of America — July 1992 – October 1992

Performed final editing on bank procedure manual, conforming style and content to a consistent standard. Wrote various pieces for the manual.

Wrote user’s guide for AS/400 applications, using existing documentation, on-line help and user input as sources. All documents were written in WordPerfect for Windows and formatted with style sheets.

Consultant Pacific Gas and Electric Company — September 1991 – June 1992

Desktop published several manuals over 1,000 pages each, primarily using Ventura Publisher (for DOS and Windows), with WordPerfect, Word for Windows and Corel Draw. Manuals included tables, graphics and equations. Programmed macros in WordPerfect. Acted as a resource for Ventura Publisher, Windows, DOS, and in general computer assistance.

Freelance Desktop PublisherJanuary 1991 – September 1991

Desktop published newsletters, flyers, manuals, etc., both independently and as a consultant, using Ventura Publisher and Corel Draw. Trained users in Ventura Publisher, set up documents, and performed general computer maintenance. Clients included: American Cancer Society, Marshall Arts Press, Orama Video, and The Goodman Group.
