A recent study conducted by Dominican University's Graduate School of Library and Informational Studies provides evidence that summer reading programs help students expand their reading abilities.  Without any summer reading, most students actually lose ground in their reading ability.  However, students that attended summer reading programs actually GAINED during the summer months putting them ahead of where they were in the spring.
